The best North American team, Team Liquid managed to achieve something extraordinary. They won the fourth big event in a row to clinch Intel Grand Slam prize and earn $1,000,000. They ended their run at ESL One Cologne 2019 with a triumph over Vitality in the Grand Final.
Dominant display prior to the Grand Final
Although Team Liquid didn’t top their group in the most smooth manner, they still managed to do it without big problems. In the first round, they had to play all 30 rounds to beat underdogs MVP PK, but North Americans avoided an upset. In the following round, they were a little bit lucky as Natus Vincere threw the game away because of the bizarre mistake of their best player, s1mple. Anyway, they bested NaVi after three maps (22-19, 14-16, 16-8). In the final round of Upper Bracket, Intel Grand Slam winners outlasted NRG Esports (16-12, 22-20) to advance to Semi-final.
In the Semi-finals, Liquid again faced NaVi. Three maps that were chosen were the same as three maps from their meeting in the Group Stage. However, this time, there was no need to play the third map as Liquid finished the job much earlier. They defeated Natus Vincere on Dust 2 and Overpass with an identical score (16-12).
Team Liquid clinched Intel Grand Slam
In the Grand Final, Team Liquid encountered the strongest upcoming team, Team Vitality. Although we saw four maps, Liquid beat Vitality in a pretty convincing manner. They crushed them on Overpass (16-6), Inferno (16-10) and Mirage (16-7), but lost on Dust 2 (19-17). As the aggregate score was 3-1 in Liquid’s favor, the North Americans won ESL One Cologne and Intel Grand Slam. Hence, they became only the second team that claimed IGS $1,000,000 prize alongside Astralis. However, Liquid accomplished this for only 63 days, which puts even more weight to their success. Unlike other prize money, this money is not going to be sent to the organization but directly to players. Therefore, each player will get $200,000. So, the list of the best earning CS:GO players will need some adjustments.
