eSports in World of Warcraft has evolved a ton over the years. Some of the first competitions were Arena Tournament and the Race for World First. But now, aside from those, we also have the MDI (Mythic+ Dungeon Invitational). It’s a competition for Mythic+ players that want to push the limits of their skills and see who can clear the Mythic+ dungeon first.

Mythic Dungeon Invitational

First Mythic+ Dungeon Invitational was held in 2018 during the Legion Expansion. It featured some of the top Mythic+ teams in the world. During this tournament, we were able to see some of the most insane plays of all time. If you are a big fan of Mythic+, you have probably watched the tournament in its entirety. It was so captivating to watch those players pull the things they did.

For example, in the Arcway dungeon of Suramar, a Shadow Priest managed to mind control a monster that allowed him to AOE burst down the rest of the group of monsters within seconds, and therefore pull ahead of the other team. This was one of the many plays these players have shown, and I have even seen regular players I’ve grouped up with after the MDI use the tactics showcased on the tournament. Even when I ordered the WoW Mythic Carry for myself a couple of months back, I saw that BoostArmory’s professionals used the tactics from MDI in order to clear the dungeon much faster, which I was honestly surprised to see. It was quite an experience though, I liked seeing boosters using professional players’ strategies to help out their customers.

Method NA vs Free Marsy at Mythic Dungeon Invitational 2018

2018 Mythic Dungeon Invitational ended with an insane Grand Final between Kjell’s Angels and Method NA. They competed in Cathedral of Eternal Night, Vault of The Wardens, Upper Karazhan, Court of Stars, and Neltharion’s Lair. At the end, Kjell’s Angels took the championship with a score of 3 – 2.

MDI 2019

Mythic Dungeon Invitational this year should be even more exciting than last. This is mostly due to the higher complexity of the Battle For Azeroth dungeons. For example, I can’t wait to see how the teams will manage in Waycrest Manor and Siege of Boralus dungeons. Those two dungeons are, in my opinion, hardest Mythic dungeons to clear in BFA. But, only time will tell, and I’m sure excited to watch the event this year also.
