Hey I Just picked up Shadow Run 20th Anniversary Edition I haven't played Shadow Run in like 10 years thought I would get the book and maybe find some players with a group I could join. Maybe there is a group out there that is missing a player?

If so I am very interested in getting back into it and it would be cool to try playing with a different GM.

I live downtown Vancouver so it would be awesome if there was a game somewhere around where I am although I would travel as long as it is transit friendly as I don't drive.

Cheers

Hey!

Another edition of Shadowrun?  Is this actually anything different than 4th edition?  Or just tidied up a little and updated with the latest errata?

It's been years since I played Shadowrun but when 4th edition came out I bought the main rulebook...  I kind of thought the 4th edition rules kind of sucked.

The 20th Anniversary version is ShadowRun 4th edition core with all the errata fixed, a bunch of new artwork & stories, and an index that includes references to the other core sourcebooks.
As for ShadowRun 3rd edition vs 4th edition, it's just a matter of preference. I was reluctant to play 4th at first, but I've since been won over. I've copied my comparative analysis of the two version from another thread below:

Ahhh, ShadowRun through the ages. I started playing shadowrun in 1990 and have played every edition since (despite a significant hiatus starting just before 4th Ed. came out); I still remember my amusement when I moved into a place where the latter half of my postal code was the damage code for my character's backup pistol (4L2).
The system evolved from 1st through 3rd edition then had a significant rules shift for 4th. Your choice is thus between 3rd & 4th, the primary differences boiling down to personal preference.
The core dice mechanic of a system establishes a tone for a game by establishing the odds of the various shades of success and failure. As an example of the concept: d20's flat 5% crit and 5% botch and static range results in a system that depends almost entirely upon modifiers for your odds of success (level-based, item-based, etc). It's not a question of whether it is a 'good' system, it's just whether the rules support the 'flavour' of the game that you want (d20 leans heavily towards swashbuckling and generally cinematic play). ShadowRun is generally associated with a 'grim-n-gritty' style of play. Non-dice game mechanics also figure strongly into this (essentially static 'hit points', no 'raise dead', etc).
The core dice mechanic of 3rd edition has sharp drop-offs in probabilities and most successful runners spend their time ensuring they benefit from situational modifiers to avoid that. Also, the relationship between attributes and skill is a matter of karma (xp) efficiency only. The core complaint about this system usually revolves around rolling large numbers of dice.
The core dice mechanic of 4th edition has even sharper drop-offs in probabilities but there are very few ways to modify when those drop-off occur. Situational modifiers only change the number of dice rolled, a minimal difference once you pass a probability drop-off. Also, due to the equal footing given to attributes and skills for effecting odds, improving an attribute is far more important in general than any skill progression (a problem many GURPS players will recognize). The core complaint about this system is the comparative 'flatness' in the odds produced by the dice mechanics change, making the game seem more 'swashbuckly' and less 'grim-n-gritty'. The rest of the rule system has remained 'grim-n-gritty', though, so it's only a 'swashbuckly' relative to 3rd edition; 4th edition is still profoundly more 'grim-n-gritty' than d20.

Well, I ran a Food Fight on Monday at a friend's place from 3pm to 7pm. Planning another session, some of the Shadowrun Missions stuff, this Friday, starting around 1pm. The current group are all underemployed for the summer, so we're taking advantage of that time to get in some gaming.
