About
What is the VGG?
The Vancouver Gaming Guild is a non-profit society originally created in 2001 with the purpose of creating an online community of people who play roleplaying games (RPGs) and related games, and to make it easy to find players and GameMasters (GMs) for these games.
We also have a mailing list at groups.yahoo.com/group/vancouvergamingguild
Are there fees or dues?
Nope! We hope you'll support our organizations by coming to our gaming conventions and game days, playing in and running games for the community.
What kind of events does the VGG run?
We run Waywardcon game days at various game stores each month, and we also run three to four conventions a year. Occasionally we work in concert with other conventions around town, offering game organization and support to broader-scope cons.
Where & When are the game days held?
Game days now take the form of Waywardcons, which is like a travelling convention going from store to store! Gamestore also have various events which are posted in the Events forum
When are the VGG conventions held?
Winter - Weathertop (Cambrian Hall)
August - Cloud City (@ Anime Evolution)
August - HârnCon VI 2008 (Marpole Curling Club)
What kind of games are played at VGG events?
Mostly tabletop roleplaying games, but also live action roleplaying games (LARPs) miniature games, card games, and board games. Some games that have been run include All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Arkham Horror, Blue Planet, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Call of Cthulhu, Deadlands, D&D (Living Greyhawk, Living Arcanis, Living Dragonstar, Living Death), Exalted, Feng Shui, Heroclix, Mechwarrior, Mutants & Masterminds, Mythos, Over the Edge, Savage Worlds, Shadowrun, Spaceship Zero, Spycraft, Star Wars, Traveller, and many more. If you would like to run a particular game, we will very happily accommodate you!
How do I register for Game Days and Conventions?
Register for conventions at the Registration system
You need a ticket number to register at cons.
Register for Waywardcons and game days in the appropriate Forum
How do I run a game at a Gameday Waywardcon or VGG conventions?
For VGG Waywardcon Game Days, all you need to do to run a game is post in the appropriate forum for the event. List the system/setting and a bit about the adventure you're gonna run. You can also contact the game day organizer through a private message at the VGG forums. They are usually the original poster of the event.
Running a game at a con is a little more involved than running a game at a VGG Game Day. First, you need to register, as noted above. Once you're registered you will be able to create a game in any slot on the registration schedule that is listed as "OPEN". Input the necessary information as listed. In the blurb section, please put as much information as possible, especially whether or not you'll be supplying pre-generated characters and whether or not your game is suitable for beginners. If it's a Perpetual campaign, please note it. Don't be too alarmed if your game doesn't fill up on the registration system - expect last minute drop ins on the day of the game. Everyone who runs games at our conventions gets a GM reward (usually a book or product of his choice from the swag box, donated by our gracious sponsors at Drexoll Games, The Comicshop, Chaosium Inc, Green Ronin Publishing, Wizards of the Coast and many many more.
DO ask for your GM rewards from the Events Organizers or whoever is manning the door after you've run all your games
DO show up for your game on time
DO provide your players with everything they'll need to play
DO apply common courtesy, fairness, and friendliness to everyone you play with at your table and at the event as a whole!
DO follow up on any paperwork that needs to be done (Living games, clix results, etc)
Outside of VGG organized events, how do I find a game to play in, or players to play in the game I'm running?
Post a message in the "Games/Players Wanted" forum describing what you're looking for. Including your age, general location, and preferred playing style is helpful.
